We try to run a combination of events. Constructed formats (you play with a deck you already own), Sealed (you get a number of boosters which you use to build a deck) or Draft (you open a booster, pick one of the cards and hand over the remaining cards to the person sitting next to you. You receive the cards from the player on the other side. The cards you pick are used to build a deck).

Most tournaments are played on Fridays, otherwise, FNM (Friday Night Magic) would be weird!. Tournament pricing include boosters and prize support.
At the same time, Commander players play their casual games of Magic. Most of those games consist of 3-4 players which makes this format more political than 1vs1... but this makes it easier for new players to join, because alliances have to be made and broken in order to win. Being the least threatening can be a huge adventage in Commander.
